2015
We started our beekeeping journey somewhat by accident, when a house we were looking at buying had a colony living in the roof. Becky was given the task of getting them removed, but when she was offered a hive just down the road, she decided to become a beekeeper instead. We still live in that house, and so do the bees.
2016
Our first honey harvest! It wasn't much and it didn't last long but I don't think we have ever tasted such sweet honey. Discovering just how much work went into a jar of honey (from both bee and human!) was a revelation.
2018
Meeting a community of like minded beekeepers. We joined our local bee association and found an amazing group of people full of knowledge that they were willing to share. It's one of the things we have loved most about this journey is meeting incredible people along the way.
2021
Adding two new beekeepers to the world. One thing having kids made us realise is just how robust bees are! They may have been left more independent than in previous years, but they got on just fine without us. Not sure the same could be said for the kids...
2024
An idea is born. This started as a thought experiment: How can we sell more honey to a wider audience? Solution: post it! Many conversations later and we arrived at the product you see today.
We The Bees
We set up a few hives in our garden and immersed ourselves in the rhythms of hive life. Over time, what began as a quirky twist of fate turned into a genuine passion—and a mission. We didn’t just want to be hobbyist beekeepers; we wanted to build something bigger. To create a community—a network of backyard beekeepers, each producing small-batch, single-origin honey with unique flavors and benefits, reflective of the local flora and microclimate.
