Meet The Beekeepers
Solway Honey
This honey is made by Katie and Amelia, a powerhouse duo of women working with their bees in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway. Keeping a manageable number of hives ensures they can dedicate themselves to high welfare honey production. This ensures their bees have access to bountiful natural forage like sycamore, horse chestnut and wild cherry.
Lake District Honey Company
One of the largest apiaries we work with, Jim Lowther is on the same mission as us to produce top quality sustainable honey - "Jim Lowther started beekeeping in a very familiar pattern; his wife bought him two hives for his birthday... And his passion began from there! He is very knowledgeable and conscious about land stewardship and the bees allow for pollination over a huge and diverse landscape around Lowther castle and grounds, promoting biodiversity. If you wander around the estate, you'll see apiaries set up all over, interspersed with wildflowers and roaming pigs. Absolutely magical."
Dal-bee-ttie Honey
This honey comes from our dear friend Paul — a born grafter who runs his own building firm, plays super dad to two girls, and still finds time for his ten hives.
Paul's bees forage the local gardens of the wee town of Dalbeattie in Dumfries & Galloway. Many of his colonies started life as local swarms — one even arrived by way of the chip shop! In July and August, he takes some of his hives up into the Galloway hills at 1000ft, where they forage on the heather.
Finn and Tina
Tina has been on the beekeeping journey as long as we have as we met on a bee keeping course back in 2014! Since then her son Finn (age 5) has been taking over the smoker duties while his mum does the heavy lifting. Based in SW Scotland, their 5 hives produce a delicious wildflower honey. One of our flagship backyard beekeepers, their honey is produced in very small batches that we will bring direct to you...so long as we get there before Finn does!
We The Bees
It's us! You can find our story on the About Us page. But this is where the idea of We The Bees came from. A few hives and a taste for the sweet stuff. We are still very much back yard bee keepers with only 10 hives at the moment, but we have been tending to our wee apiary for over 10 years now.
